Foster Parents Needed:
In order to better match our clients with a dog, we are looking for foster homes. A foster home would house the dog for an undetermined amount of time, could be one week to several months. This would allow us to see what behaviors the dog displays in a home and give us time to assess the dog for service work. We recommend that the dog be kept separate from resident dogs initially and can help give you ideas on how to structure this for your household. Foster parents would need to complete a home check by a VSD volunteer and attend an orientation class prior to being placed with a dog.
Foster Program Coordinator:
This position involves keeping track of who is in foster care, interviewing and doing home checks for potential foster homes, coordinating foster parent training sessions and reports to the Director of Training. The amount of time for this position would vary, but would include some evenings and weekends. Some weeks there might be very little to do, while other weeks may be fairly busy, so flexibility is important. Good customer service skills, communication, and organization are important aspects of this position.
